My dad wanted me to spend a couple of days at his lodge in Shropshire with him, partly to see what it's like when it's not snowing (see my photos from Christmas if your interested for serious contrasts!) and also to do a black downhill mountain bike route with him. I was delighted to go, but to spend time with my dad. His lodge is in an amazing place, almost in a different time zone to the rest of the country. It makes me think of the England that only exists in old fashioned tv programmes such as midsommer murders. The mountain bike route... I like a bit of a thrill and am not scared of much anymore (other than kayaking), but am concerned about my dad being hurt. We went though and kitted up in loads of safety equipment - body armour and helmet. Made it to the top of Hopton Hill one at a time and with considerable effort on my part due to a cold. Thrilling ride down though and only mishaps were my dad getting his helmet (complete with head) stuck in the mud and I got a bee in my helmet - so much for safety gear!!
